"By solving the murder of Commander Lucas, I was able to reach the City Center. All I needed to do was get through the metro tunnel." Quest description
|
Into The Dark is the ninth Story Quest in Dying Light 2 Stay Human.
Objectives
- Enter the tunnel.
- Aitor kept his word. The Peacekeepers let me and Hakon through the tunnel. We headed to the Center.
- Follow Hakon.
- We were walking down the tunnel when we heard an explosion. Soon after, the exhaust fans stopped working.
- Talk to Hakon.
- The air in the tunnel started to become contaminated. We had little time. I went to restart the fans and Hakon went to check the electrical system.
- Turn on the ventilation system.
- I found the fan panel, but without power, I was unable to start the fans. On Hakon's advice, I looked for an backup power source.
- Turn on the backup power.
- The emergency power generator was too overloaded to start properly. As a last resort, Hakon suggested we turn off the lights and power only the fans. I was about to go back into the dark...
- Run to Hakon!
- Moving in total darkness, I managed to get back to Hakon before it and the chemicals caused my infection reach the point of no return.
- Keep going with Hakon.
- Speak with Hakon.
- A barrier closing unexpectedly trapped me in the metro station. Before we were seperated, I gave Hakon the GRE so he could open the barrier again.
- Survive until Hakon returns.
- As I waited for Hakon, I resisted both monsters and my rising infection. Just when I thought I couldn't go any further, I heard someone calling me.
- Reach the barrier.
- Instead of Hakon, Anderson appeared. She said that the inhabitants of the Bazaar had destroyed the windmill, cutting off the power! She promised to get me out of the tunnel.
- Survive the infected's attacks.
- Get back to Anderson.
- The doors were too strong, so Anderson's plan was use explosives to blow a hole in the tunnel wall so I could get out.
- Set off the explosives.
- The explosion ripped a hole in the wall as planned. I was free!
- Get outside.
- On the way to the surface, I was captured by Barney. He was overconfident and didn't expect me to resist, so he neglected to tie me up.
- Defeat Barney.
- They put up quite a fight, but I ultimately defeated Barney and his henchmen.
- Exit the building.
- I escaped, but Anderson found herself trapped in an elevator without power and in the dark. I promised to rescue her.
- Help Anderson.
- Anderson directed me to emergency diesel generators. I ran immediately to start them up and restore power to the elevator.
- Secure the area.
- The generators were surrounded by infected and it took some time to clear the area. I talked to Anderson over the radio to give her hope, but I could tell her situation was becoming dire.
- Start the generators.
- I started the generators! I hoped there was still enough time to save Anderson...
- Get to the elevator.
- By the time I reached the elevator, Anderson had already turned. She lunged at me. I had no choice...
- Find Hakon.
- Hakon contacted me shortly thereafter and told me to meet him at Sarah and Jana's workshop.
Walkthrough
Having helped Aitor in catching Barney, believed to be Commander Lucas' murderer, Aiden gains access to the metro tunnels at the Main Terminal Station. Head down to the platform to meet up with Hakon. The Peacekeeper Berislav is initially unwilling to let them through until he hears their names, as Aiden and Hakon were given clearance. Once on the platform, follow Hakon.
While walking, the UV lights will switch off for a second due to a power surge while the ventilation system shuts down entirely. Hakon recommends Aiden going to the ventilation panel in the service tunnel to get the ventilation system working again while he checks out the power supply.
Walk back a bit and use the GRE access key to unlock the door leading to a small area with some loot, but be mindful of the area being a chemical area which drains immunity. Turn right from the entrance to go through a hallway, then use the big pipes to climb up a level, and then use the yellow tarp and some jumping to get to the ventilation panel. Turn it on again to attempt to restore the ventilation system. Unfortunately, it does not function so Hakon recommends following the cables in the area to find the backup generator.
Go down to the lowest part of the area and turn north, go up the ladder, turn left and use the GRE access key to unlock a door which leads to the generator. Turn it on to restore the ventilation system but unfortunately, it does not work either. Hakon comes with a solution to give the panel the power it needs, he will shut down the lights to redirect the power to the ventilation system. Run back to the tracks to the large vents to find them powered on. As the second large vent is spinning too rapidly, climb up instead, use the monkey bars to swing to an alcove, and then jump from there to the other side. Follow the path further, be sure to avoid the Biters along the way.
While it is a close call, Aiden will make it back to the metro tracks, and be reunited with Hakon inside one of the metro carts. The two will then move on. Along the way, Hakon will spot a Graffiti work by John Michael Novak. While admiring it, some sounds can be heard in the distance. While Aiden tries to check it out, a large explosion is heard and the lights go out, alongside the ventilation system. The power outage also causes the metro door system to shut down, with Hakon making it to the other side just in time, the two are seperated. He asks Aiden for the GRE key to open up the barriers, claiming there is a panel on his side with the door controls. Upon being given the key, Hakon is not seen again.
With Hakon gone, the infected will appear, some Spitters, Virals, and Biters will need to be dealt with to survive. During the fighting, Anderson can be heard over the radio, speaking in broken up words, so head on over to the barrier to meet up with her. In conversation, she states she was sent down by Aitor to check on Hakon and Aiden, so Aiden tells her that Hakon has moved out without him. She can be asked what happened up top, to which she responds by saying the people of the Bazaar blew up the Old Villedor Master Windmill, cutting off the power supply to the metro station. To help give Aiden some more time, she gives him a level 1 Immunity Booster. Then return to fighting the infected.
During the fighting, Anderson will call on Aiden again to report she has returned, so head back over to the barrier and talk to her. She has brought some explosives so Aiden can blow a hole into the wall to the technical corridor adjacent to the metro and escape. She also provides him with another level 1 Immunity Booster. Plant the charges on the western wall and stand back for the explosion, then proceed through the tunnel to escape, but be careful as due to the blast some fires have started which deal flame damage.
Upon reaching the outside world, Aiden has little chance for a celebration as Barney has somehow managed to escape Peacekeeper custody and knocks Aiden out. When Aiden comes to, Barney has transported him to a house in Horseshoe. Along with two other Survivors, Barney keeps an eye on Aiden and makes clear that while he denies killing Lucas he is glad he has a chance to kill Aiden, before kicking Aiden to the ground. As such, Barney and his companions need to be defeated. After doing so, check the room as there is a GRE container which holds three Inhibitors. Then move the wooden board blocking a window frame to see the ruins of the Old Villedor Master Windmill. Upon spotting it, Aiden will radio Anderson to report he is outside. It becomes clear Anderson herself is stuck in the elevator leading to the metro tunnels. When asked where she is, she will state Aitor sent some people her way but that she hopes they will arrive before her Biomarker turns red. Aiden will then be given the choice to either help Anderson, or just thank her for the help she gave earlier.
Thank Anderson
If chosen to thank Anderson, Hakon will contact Aiden and state he has another plan to get to the central loop, so look for Hakon and speak to him. Once at the workshop of Jana and Sarah, Hakon decides to move out when he is hit by an arrow coming from the Houndfield Electrical Station. While investigating the arrow wound, a scar in Hakon's neck is noticed by Aiden - Hakon is the murderer of commander Lucas. Aiden will be given the option to either help Hakon, starting the quest "Snipers' Alley", or to leave him to his fate, completing the quest and leading to the start of "Let's Waltz!".
Help Anderson
If chosen to help Anderson, she will state her location: the lift at the extraction point, which is roughly 330 meters southwest from where Barney kept Aiden. When near the extraction point, she will state that each of the exits has an emergency power supply.
There are three generators at the extraction point, two of which are surrounded by biters and two goons, so to turn them on safely, dispatch them and clear the area. The other generator is located at a more secure location, just outside a Dark Hollow entrance. When the generators are activated, several virals will also appear and attack, so dispatch them as well.
When the elevator reaches the surface, head to it and turn it on so the elevator opens. Unfortunately, it turns out it was already too late for her as she has turned into a viral herself. Put her down. After doing so, Aitor will contact Aiden to ask about Anderson, and declare that he has sent troops to the Bazaar to return order. Concluding the conversation, Hakon will contact Aiden, claiming to have another plan to get to the center, so go to Hakon and speak to him in person.
