Not to be confused with Sophia.

"Now I understand my mother. You have to be ruthless to be a leader. I wasn't ready then. I am now."
Sophie

Sophie is one of the characters who appears in Dying Light 2 Stay Human. She serves as the head of security and later leader of the Bazaar and looks to honor her mother's actions and guide the Bazaar in the right direction, even when this leads her in direct conflict with the Peacekeepers.

History

"She appointed Carl as her successor, with me at his side. "You'll grow up to be a far better leader than Carl, but people won't listen to someone so young whilst the world is blowing up.""
Sophie

Sophie and her brother were born around or a few years before the start of the THV pandemic. Her mother led the Bazaar - a large coalition of survivors that made the Church of the Holy Trinity their home. Her mother died after taking fatal wounds from infected whilst defending the Bazaar.

Carl was appointed leader, with Sophie as his right hand, but as time went on, friction began to grow between them, particularly on their relationship with the Peacekeepers. Carl believed that co-operation was necessary, while Sophie became more and more frustrated at the Peacekeepers' 'Protection' of the Bazaar.

This came to a head with The Dukes mining the water tower, causing the Bazaar's leadership to teeter on the verge of collapse. Eventually, after the conflict between survivors and PKs boils over into an assault on the Bazaar by the latter, Sophie decides that it's finally time to take matters into her own hands and, following in the footsteps of her Mother, takes leadership of the Bazaar from Carl.

Equipment and Personality

"A revolution needs two things - ideology and an armed faction to enforce it."
Sophie

Sophie is a results-oriented and calculated leader. She is fiercely loyal to the Bazaar and those she calls family, however can get frustrated with their actions repeatedly. She is more pragmatic and idealistic in nature, this being one underlying factor of her perpetual struggle with Carl over the future of the Bazaar. However, Sophie is much more ruthless and more willing to fight than Carl, advocating for an offensive against the Dukes and berates both herself and Carl for sticking to a peaceful approach when the meeting with the Dukes goes wrong.

Sophie is a woman with blue-grey eyes and blond hair that hangs to her neck but is swept away from her face. She wears torn jeans with white and brown patches, sneakers, and a blue t-shirt with white collaring under a brown bomber jacket with dark grey buttons and a red and yellow badge on the right lapel. She also wears a blue beret, and is seen using a crossbow.

Show: The Only Way Out

Aiden: "Sophie, can we talk?"
Hermann: "Grrrrr..."
Sophie: "Don't hurt him, Herman. Let him talk."
Aiden: "My name's--"
Sophie: "Aiden. You're that Pilgrim that came to town recently."
Aiden: "You're sure well-informed."
Sophie: "Don't have much of a choice. I'm in charge of safety here. Besides, yesterday you made quite an entrance."
Aiden: "I'm looking for a job. Would you happen to know of any?"
Sophie: "Looking for a job...? I only work with people I trust. You came from outside. They wanted to hang you... Nobody says anything good about you, Pilgrim. Do you want me to trust you? Talk to the people at the Bazaar. See if you can gain their trust. If so, then it might persuade me to change my mind."
(After earning Sophie's trust)
Sophie: "Aiden? This is Sophie. Let's talk now."
(Back at the Bazaar)
Aiden: "Sophie. You wanted to see me?"
Sophie: "I've been hearing about you."
Aiden: "Good or bad things?"
Sophie: "Useful things. The ones that make me believe it's worth giving you a chance."
Aiden: "What are you proposing?"
Sophie: "Go to one of the craftmasters, Alberto or Vincenzo. Both know the location of the purest crystals. I need a few for... a certain transaction."

Aiden: "(What sort of transaction?) A 'certain transaction.' Anything I need to know about?"
Sophie: "Curiosity is the first step on the road to Hell, Carl says."
Aiden: "Do you believe that?"
Sophie: "I believe in not trusting strangers. And that's who you are. So far at least. Bring me the location of the crystals first. We'll see where we go from there."
Aiden: "(Why are the crystals so important here?) Those crystals... What's the deal with them?"
Sophie: "They were created by the chemical bombings of the city, a by-product of some sort. People believe the infection spreads slower if you wear them. Honestly, I don't think it does, but there's no harm in trying."
Aiden: "And that's why they're so important to you guys?"
Sophie: "That and many other reasons. They're hard to get, difficult to destroy and easy to get obsessed with... 'cause they're so pretty', right? But most importantly... they're real, tangible things. Way more real than a piece of paper and old money. That's why they're so bloody expensive."
Aiden: "(What do you mean, 'in charge of safety?') You said you're in charge of safety at the Bazaar. What does that mean, exactly?"
Sophie: "It means any PK who threatens our community of free people can count on me breaking his skull."
Aiden: "From the way Carl talked, you sounded more like pacifists."
Sophie: "We're trying to overturn the old ways and usher in a new era for humanity. It's a true revolution. And every revolution needs two things to succeed: ideology and an armed faction to enforce it."
Aiden: "(Tell me more about Alberto and Vincenzo.) Alberto and Vincenzo? Tell me more about them."
Sophie: "A father and son duo. Alberto, the father, tends to yammer on. Before 0-Hour, he had a workshop and piles of cash. Vincenzo, his son is kinda shy. They both are craftsmen. Clever, too. The kind that could make a watch outta old gum and a piece of string."
Aiden: "(I'll look for Alberto and Vincenzo.) Fine. I'll go talk to one of those craftmasters."
Sophie: "They're in the Bazaar. Do well and we can think about giving you bigger jobs."

(After speaking to Alberto and Vincenzo)
Sophie: "Well? What did you find?"
Aiden: "I know the location, but I was told your brother asked about it already."
Sophie: "Herman! See if Barney turned on his radio. Barney? Answer me. Barney...? Damn! So that's why he's gone offline... He's looking for the crystals on his own. And throwing a wrench in the works yet again."
Aiden: "This isn't the first time, I gather?"
Sophie: "No. He's always trying to prove himself. Last time, he got wounded. Wasn't that long ago, either. Fucking kid! I'll kill him. I'll just kill him."

Aiden: "(Why blame yourself?) Why blame yourself? We all make our own beds."
Sophie: "Listen... you said it yourself, you're new here. So you don't know much. I'm responsible for security here. And he's my brother. I promised I'd look after him."
Aiden: "You promised...? Promised who?"
Sophie: "Never mind. I'll kick Barney's ass when he gets back."
Aiden: "(How did Barney get hurt?) How'd Barney get wounded?"
Sophie: "He didn't want to tell me. My guess is that the PKs got ahold of him."
Aiden: "Your brother keeps secrets from you?"
Sophie: "That's none of your business! Barney answer me...! Dammit all to hell... If he went to a dark zone in his condition, he's a goner."
Aiden: "I can try to track him down."
Sophie: "You?"
Aiden: "I've been in a dark zone before. In the GRE hospital."
Sophie: "Saint Joseph Hospital? Really? If you save him... you won't regret it. We still have some time. Barney will likely wait 'til dusk. Going into a dark zone during the day is suicide. Just bring him back home safe."
Aiden: "I'll do my best."
Sophie: "Good luck."
