"Our runners brought in a badly wounded, delirious man, raving about people immune to the virus. He had a map showing a way out of Harran. There are more and more sick people here, and not enough Antizin... and Camden's research hasn't borne any fruit yet. I've got to check every lead."
Quest introduction

The Way Out is the first story quest of Dying Light: The Following.[1]

Objectives

Objective icon.png
Find a way out of the sewers
It looks like the one-eyed man, Lena's patient, told us the truth. There is a way out of Harran, and it really does lead to the countryside. What's more important is that, in his fever, he was mumbling that the locals don't turn, even if they get bitten. Gotta verify that - especially since we're running out of Antizin.

Find someone who knows more about the rumor
Found a farm. It seems like a good place to ask about the rumor.

Try to learn more about people who don't turn
Objective icon.png
Find someone in charge
Shit. The villagers won't talk to me. They told me to find Jasir, the Mayor. He's the one in charge, but he won't talk to me either, dammit.

Find someone willing to tell you something

Walkthrough

After a cutscene featuring Lena and a Survivor named Kurt from the countryside who has brought a map, Lena and Crane decide to send Crane out due to the decreasing supply of Antizin and rumors of people not getting infected after being bitten. After the cutscene, Crane will appear in a sewer system, carrying any items he held onto him during the events of Dying Light.

Follow the sewage system to find a body of water in a cave. Jump down and make your way through the cave until reaching the outside world. Once outside in the countryside, Crane attempts to contact Lena. Communications are difficult due to the distance travelled.

The rock wall on the north leads to a jutting rock. Climb up and jump towards the tree with the orange cloth hanging from it. Keep jumping to- and from these jutting rocks in the same direction. Eventually a fallen tree can be seen with more orange cloth hanging from it. While it may be difficult to see, there is a ledge near it alongside the mountainside. Hold on to the ledge and shimmy along it until reaching the other side. Once there, jump to the rock on the other side and walk across the fallen tree. Climb up some rocks and jump down into the water.

Once in the water, keep following the directional marker to the northeast. This will lead to Jasir's farm, a Safe Zone. Climb over the gate and be introduced to Eylem who is suspicious of Crane. After a short conversation he will direct Crane to Jasir, so go look for him. Speaking to anyone else around the farm is largely pointless, as they will all direct Crane to Jasir. Burak is standing outside the barn where Jasir is located, speak to him and head inside to find Jasir involved in a heated argument with his daughter, Ezgi.

"Lena? This is Crane. Do you copy? Dammit. What a fucking wasteland."
Kyle Crane after attempting to contact Lena

Jasir is uncooperative in conversation, so leave the barn. Crane attempts to contact Lena, but to no avail. Kaan will call on to Crane shortly thereafter. Speak to him.
