Survivors

Survivors are minor characters in Dying Light. They can be usually found throughout the city trapped from the Infected, being beat up by Rais's Men, or hiding. If the player helps them, they are given Cash or upgrades for weapons, and experience points to go towards their rank. On occasion, such Survivors can defeat their opponents without the player's help, thus providing free XP and rewards. They can be found in both friendly and hostile variations; and hostile survivors will readily attack the player with melee weapons, often in pairs.

Appearance

Survivors wear various apparel to protect themselves when out in the open. Some wear martial arts headgear. Many of the survivors wear mouth covers, which could be either a Dust or Surgical mask. This could be to reduce the chance of spreading airborne diseases; they are sick, and are considerate of other survivors, or to not have infected blood orally ingested. Some wear sunglasses of different styles, and can have rags or a bandana tied in a way which covers their head.

Survivors seen in combat situations typically have large jackets with overlaying straps to store items. They also wear cargo style long pants, usually coupled with knee guards.

Conversation

Rais' prisoner

Crane: "Hey. What're you looking for?"
Survivor: "Something I can use for a tourniquet. Once Rais takes this place over, we're going to need plenty of 'em. That's something they do, see? Amputations. Rais gets a kick out of it. Wondering how I know? That motherfucker kept me locked in a cage for three weeks. I saw plenty. Sometimes it was like he was experimenting... see what'd do the job best. Machete... axe... shotgun. Hell, he took this one guy's legg off at the knee, and had Tahir time how long it took the poor bastard to bleed out. It's a valid strategy. You kill an enemy, well, that's one enemy down. But you HURT an enemy... Then you've got the wounded guy out of the fight, plus it'll take at least two more people to care for him. Three for the price of one. There's value in sadism, I guess. Given the right circumstances."
Crane: "I bet you're a lot of fun at parties."

Survivor tip

Survivor: "Hey. You. Crane. C'mere, I got some advice for you. I don't know if you've noticed, but those dead fucks out there got pretty keen hearing. Loud noises -- like fucking moths to a flame, you get me? You see where I'm goin' with this? They're hungry, they're mindless, and they're drawn to bangs and booms and shit. So here's what you do, you see somebody you think oughta get gnawed on... ... and you make a big noice right next to 'em. Bring down the biters like a swarm of locusts. Some people might say that's fightin' dirty. I say. "Kiss my ass. I'm not the one gettin' my face chewed off."
Crane: "Yeah, I'll, uh... I'll bear that in mind. Thanks."
