Dark Zones
Dark Zones are darkened infested areas full of Infected but with valuable loot such as Inhibitors. It is however very dangerous as there are many Infected hibernating or roaming around these zones so it is recommended that the player can explore a Dark Zone during the night when there are less infected in it.
Pre-Fall
Dark Zones were normal areas or locations such as shopping centers or apartments.
The Fall and The Apocalypse
Forsaken Stores
During the collapse of civilization, peace and order quickly fell causing "The Fall" leading for many areas such as stores to be broken into and ransacked by the panicking population. Once a semblance of order was restored by the remaining governments and the Council of Mankind was created, "The Fall" slowly drew to a close but its effects were devastating as it made thousands of the surviving human populace lose their way of life leading to bankruptcy of most stores/shopping centers. Within months, most entertainment areas were abandoned with only a few materials remaining.
These abandoned stores would then be infested by large numbers of Infected turning it into a Forsaken Store.
Dark Hollows
Dark Hollows were apartments that fell apart.
