"I suppose I could help you out. Just remember, you'll have to return the favor one day."
Ezgi to Kyle Crane

Ezgi is a character who appears in Dying Light: The Following, and a survivor living in Harran's outback region.

Biography

Ezgi is a young woman living in a small settlement in the countryside outside of Harran, and the daughter of Jasir. She is first seen fighting with her father, whom forbids her to see a boy that she is seeing. She is initially one of the few friendly individuals in the settlement and assists Kyle Crane in getting on the good side of the rest of the settlers.

Unlike the majority of the population, Ezgi is more outspoken and negative in regards to the settlement's protection provided by The Mother, showing disdain towards their near-complete reliance.

Ezgi later speaks to Crane about her distress in regards to how she is becoming numb to the death of her friends and associates.

Ezgi flees the settlement, travels with a friend of hers named Dara and stays with a man named Ozan, the same man that Jasir forbids her from seeing, briefly before going to a nearby campsite. Bandits appear shortly after and begin shooting, luring the infected to the campsite. Kyle rescues her and reveals her intentions. She's going to Harran with Dara and she'll use an old tunnel connecting to it to do so. Her reasoning is that she's tired of being controlled by her father and by the cult and she wants to be free to make her own decisions.

Ezgi travels to the tunnel, but Dara suddenly turns into a Viral, and Kyle saves her. Though hesitant, Kyle allows her to go, asking Troy to look out for her. When told about this, Jasir accepts this, hoping she'll be safe. After arriving, she tries to contact Crane via radio upon her destination at Troy's, but static from the radio interrupts their connection.

Personality and Appearance

Ezgi is a headstrong, stubborn, and opinionated young woman. Unlike the rest of the settlement, Ezgi is very outspoken about her opinion of the settlement's passive nature. This stems from her controlling father, who tries to dictate her life, and she's very independent because of it. She believes that people should be free to make their own choices in life.

Ezgi is otherwise a very caring and friendly person that possesses a big heart for those not accepted by the settlement, and she's friends with at least two people who have been shunned by them.

She appears to be in her late teens or early 20's. She has black hair with a section of hair dyed pink and curled together with her normal hair, green eyes, and of Caucasian descent. She wears a studded collar around her neck, a black slouchy "Moonlight Hunters" shirt, a wristband, blue ripped jeans with a chain and her custom mascot, and dark brown combat boots.

Conversations

Show: The Way Out

Jasir: "You will not see him again! Do you hear me? I forbid it!"
\ Ezgi: "Father, please! Can't we talk about this?"
Jasir: "No, no! End of discussion!"
Ezgi: "Fine... Fine!"
Jasir: "Ezgi... wait. Ezgi!"

When approached:

Crane: "Excuse me..."
Ezgi: "Not now, please."

Show: Kaan and Able

Ezgi: "You're looking for Kaan? He's gone. I guess they finally asked him to leave."
Crane: "Asked him to leave, huh? What, at gunpoint? And who's they?"
Ezgi: "They finally did what my father should've done a long time ago. And it suddently got really nice and quiet around here, didn't it?"
Crane: "... You didn't answer my question."
Ezgi: "Of course I didn't. You're here for the same reason he was, same reason the bandits won't leave us alone. And we're supposed to trust you?"
Crane: "There's got to be something I can do to convince you."
Ezgi: "You don't have to convince me. I don't care. Show everyone else you're here to give, not just to take. And I'm Ezgi, by the way."
Crane: "Kyle Crane. Ezgi... can you give me some hints, at least? What do you guys need?"
Ezgi: "I suppose I could help you out. Just remember, you'll have to return the favor one day."
Crane: "You got it."
Ezgi: "The ground waters got polluted a while back... Imagine what would happen if you got our watter running again."
Crane: "...I assume there is a way to do this?"
Ezgi: "Yes, there is. But it's in bandit territory. Several men who volunteered to go there... Well, they never came back. So I wouldn't recommend it... Unless you have a death wish. If you do - then just follow the pipeline."

If approached again:

Crane: "Thanks for the hint, Ezgi. But... when you said they asled him to leave, you didn't mean the people who live around here, right?"
Ezgi: "No. These people never actually do anything. They couldn't get rid of Kaan for months before. Why would they do it now?"
Crane: "Still dodging the question."
Ezgi: "Still not sure if you deserve an answer."
Crane: "Well... But kicking someone out of the community just 'cause he was... rude? Isn't that a bit cruel?"
Ezgi: "Could be. But there's only a tiny wall between us and a swarm of bandits, zombies, and who knows what else. One man's big mouth could be enough to tear this place apart."
Crane: "And you're okay with that? If he can't find shelter out there, he's a dead man."
Ezgi: "Oh, come on. You're from the city, you know people like Kaan, don't you? They always find a way to survive. He'd barter with a corpse if it meant he'd get away from trouble."

If approached again:

Crane: "No point asking what you were arguing about? With your father?"
Ezgi: "No point."
Crane: "But still, you're the only one here who's speaking to me."
Ezgi: "Well, I can understand their attitude... but I don't have to agree with their methods, do I?"
Crane: "So you guys would rather just see me gone?"
Ezgi: "Well... No. Look, people here have gotten used to someone taking care of them. All thanks to the Mother and her servants."
Crane: "Servants?"
Ezgi: "Just help the people, all right? Do something spectacular, and soon enough you'll see for yourself."

Show: Gaining Credence

Ezgi: "Thank you, Kyle. I guess one man with a death wish can be a great help to those who just want to live in peace."
Crane: "I don't have a death wish. I just can't stand bullies."
Ezgi: "Well, in any case, you really did something spectacular for the people here. Try talking with my father now. I bet his tune will change."
Crane: "Thanks, Ezgi."
Ezgi: "No, thank you."

Show: Lazarus

Crane: "Ezgi, I've... Oh. That's... Ercan's daughter, right?"
Ezgi: "No, that's not her. That's what's left of her. She was the happiest person I'd ever known. But now..."
Crane: "I'm sorry. But she's... conscious, right?"
Ezgi: "Conscious, yes. But the longer she lies there, the more I feel like she just doesn't want to live anymore. When she was still speaking... She told me they hurt her. And her mother. They shot her brother in the face, Kyle. Made her watch."
Crane: "I'll take care of it. They won't hurt anyone else."
Ezgi: "Yeah. Of course. Sorry, I just think I've heard it too many times before..."

Upon returning from the farm:

Crane: "Just as I promised... The bandits are no threat now."
Ezgi: "Thank you. You did more for her than anyone else in this God-forsaken place..."
Crane: "Look, Ezgi... I've seen a lot. The only thing I can tell you is, eventually, it will start to hurt a little less."
Ezgi: "Don't patronize me, Kyle. You think she's the only friend I've lost since the outbreak? It's terrible I'm getting so numb it almost doesn't hurt anymore."
Crane: "At least this one will get her father back. Ercan's alive. They'll bring him here."
Ezgi: "Oh? He survived? Well, I guess she'd have been a little bit happier if only she heard that... Though..."
Crane: "Though... what?"
Ezgi: "Nothing much. Just a thought. I just wonder why — before — she told me what happened to everyone else... but didn't say a word about him..."

Show: The Ties That Bind

Crane: "There you are! I'm glad to see... both of you... alive."
Ezgi: "What are you doing here?! How did you get through that hell?"
Crane: "I could ask you the same thing! What were you guys thinking?"
Ezgi: "There were only a couple of Biters wandering around when we got here."
Dara: "Yeah, but then some bandits showed up and started shooting..."
Ezgi: "Next thing we knew the place was flooded with undead."
Crane: "Yeah, well, time to head back. Your dad's worried sick about you."
Dara: "Huh? We're not going back!"
Ezgi: "Forget it, Kyle. This isn't a decision my father gets to make."
Crane: "Ezgi... Jesus. I knew you were strong-willed, but I didn't think you were crazy."
Ezgi: "We're going to Harran. Dara and me. We want our OWN lives."
Crane: "But... listen to me. Harran is just as big a death trap as this place!"
Ezgi: "I'm not going to live the rest of my life chained to my father's leg like a fucking dog!"
Crane: "No, you can't—"
Ezgi: "Kyle, please. I told you I'd ask you for a favor someday. This is the day. I need you to help us."
Dara: "We know that it's dangerous in Harran... but this place is killing us. You just got here. Imagine living here."
Ezgi: "Imagine living among those people. How sick of it you'd get."
Dara: "There's a tunnel not far from here. A path into the city. That's where we're going."
Crane: "All right. All right. But I need to check that tunnel first. PROMISE me you won't set foot out of this trailer till I tell you it's safe."
Ezgi: "We promise, Kyle. Thank you. Thank you SO much."

After clearing the tunnel:

Crane: "Ezgi. It's Crane. That "path into the city" you were going to use? Yeah, it was filled with Volatiles."
Ezgi: "Holy shit. Uh... so... are they gone now?"
Crane: "Yeah, I cleared them out. It should be safe for you."
Ezgi: "Wow. Thank you! We're packed and ready to go!"
Crane: "Good. Contact me once you're safe in the tunnel, okay? I won't tell your old man anything for a while. In case you change your mind."
Ezgi: "We're not changing our minds. But yes, I'll call you, I promise."

Show: Exercises in Futility

Ezgi: "Kyle? It's Ezgi! I'm at the tunnel... please, get here as fast as you can!"

After killing Dara:

Ezgi: "She just... turned right in front of me..."
Crane: "But — Aren't you people immune?!"
Ezgi: "She wasn't a part of this fucking cult! Nobody here accepted her. Ever."
Crane: "But when did she get bitten? Didn't you know about it?"
Ezgi: "Must've been on the way to the campground. I would've known if it'd happened before that."
Crane: "If it helps any... there was nothing you could have done."
Ezgi: "No, Kyle. That doesn't help."
Crane: "Just... Get your things. I'll take you home."
Ezgi: "Home? Are you crazy? I can't go back now! It would make everything... pointless."
Crane: "Ezgi... come on..."
Ezgi: "Kyle. Listen to me. If I go back, I'm trapped. I can't accept that. I won't."
Crane: "Jesus... All right, well, listen. Go, be careful. This tunnel should lead to Old Town. I'll ask my friend Troy to look out for you. Good luck, Ezgi."
Ezgi: "Thank you. Thank you, Kyle."

Some time after completing the quest:

Ezgi: "Kyle? ...Kyle, are you there?"
Crane: "Ezgi?"
Ezgi: "Damn, I can barely hear you. But listen... I made it. I found Troy. Thank you, Kyle. She told me about the..."
Crane: "Ezgi? Ezgi! ...Dammit."
