Hellraid is the fourth and latest Downloadable Content expansion pack for Dying Light released on August 13th, 2020. It is a DLC representing the same named game Hellraid from Techland that ceased development in the second quarter of 2015. The DLC puts an old Hellraid console in The Tower, which when triggered opens a portal to Hell and enters the Hellraid world. It was welcomed poorly due to lack of content, where only the Raid mode was enabled at first. However, Hellraid has continued to be updated with the first major update coming in June 2021 as a free update which included a game mode called "The Prisoner", which is a beginning of a quest line where the player fights against skeletons, zombies and minotaurs which are referred to "Anet's servants" to free a prisoner named Lucius that fights against Anet in Ba'al's temple.

"The Prisoner" Quest Line

Clavis Stones

When the player enters the console he is spawned in a dungeon and a mysterious entity named Lucius starts talking with the player, explaining to him that he must collect three Clavis stones, which are visible once the player leaves the first room. Collecting the stones is pretty straightforward, hacking and slashing through hordes of skeletons and zombies down to the last level. When the player collects all three stones, there are 5 waves of enemies to fight. In the final wave a Minotaur enters the arena. After the Minotaur and other monsters are dealt with, Lucius opens up a portal for the player to leave the first level.

Imprisoned

The second part of the quest line leads the player to Lucius, who is trapped by two crystals. The crystals need to be destroyed for Lucius to be set free. When the player arrives to the crystals, there are swarms of zombies which do not stop to arrive until the crystal in the room is destroyed and deactivated. When the player destroys both crystals and returns to Lucius, they are both teleported in an old dungeon inside the temple where the player can train, trade and stash his items, play Raid mode and play the quest line further.

Beneath the Seals

Third and currently final instalment of the quest line gives the player the task to return to the first dungeon (same as Clavis Stones), but this time the rooms react different. In this quest the player is to find three coffers by searching the rooms, with enemies being more aggressive than the first time the player visited (Lucius says that Anet is onto their intention to find the coffers and therefore sends more powerful minions). When the three coffers are presented onto an altar, the altar is pressed and where the coffers once stood the altar gives a Corrupted Justice bow, which the player needs to use in order to fight the enemies that appear after the bow is collected. After the final wave is done, Lucius teleports the player back to their dungeon where the player needs to await further instructions from Lucius.

Weapons and equipment

Hellraid comes with a total of 16 new weapons to use, of which all but one can be purchased in the main game using Hellraid Coins accumulated by looting the dungeon as you go through it. By increasing your Hellraid level, you can unlock more weapons to purchase from a chest next to the arcade machine in The Tower.

In addition to the weapons, various new equipment were introduced exclusively for Hellraid. Unlike the weapons, these can't be purchased using Hellraid coins outside of the DLC.

One new outfit was also made available at Hellraid level 10.

  • Raider Armor

Trivia

  • The time is always set to 12:00 midday while in Hellraid. If exiting Hellraid to Harran, you will emerge at 12:00.
  • All enemies are always marked with the red enemy arrows like Virals and special infected in the normal game.
  • All Hellraid weapons purchased at The Tower are of gold rarity, even those weapons which are of white rarity in Hellraid itself.
    • In addition to this, all the weapons have 200 durability and 4 repairs.
  • All the weapons deal more damage outside of Hellraid. For example, Foul Blades deal around 250 damage inside of Hellraid but purchasing one in Harran from the chest next to the arcade machine will give a 400 damage Foul Blade.
