"Dodge" is an Agility skill in Dying Light.

Overview

The Dodge skill allows the player to strafe from left to right or even backwards to avoid incoming attacks. Despite being a common skill in games, this isn't as useful as it seems. For one, Infected have a habit of attacking in swarms, leaving little room for dodging. This combined with their habit of grabbing anything in front of them makes dodging a very difficult skill to use in such combat. The Vault skill grants more useful methods of evasion as Biters cannot grab things above them.

Big enemies such as Goons often have attacks with area damage with level 3 Goons being impossible to dodge due to the size of their shockwaves. Many other enemies also have tracking attacks such as Bruisers who will follow the player while raising their fist before proceeding to attack them. Humans also usually come in hordes and Kyle himself is usually unable to dodge gunfire.

A way to utilize this skill is to use it for movement when the player is out of running/parkour stamina by dodging sideways to the direction that they want to go to, as constantly dodging in one direction is equivalent to running without boosts. The player should be cautious though, as they will not be able to see enemies in the direction that they are dodging.

In other words, this isn't the most useful skill which makes sense since this is the first few agility skills unlocked.

Trivia

  • Strangely enough, dodging does not cost the player any stamina unless the player is on Nightmare Mode, which will make the Dodge skill pause stamina regeneration and consume a tiny amount of it. The player can still dodge if their stamina is depleted but will reset stamina recovery.
